How to count words in your text
- Type or paste text into the editor, or open a non-empty UTF-8 .txt file up to 1 MiB. PDF and Word files are not supported here.
- Counts update after you type. Edit your draft to meet your target length. Set your own pace from 80 to 240 words per minute to estimate speaking time.
- Copy the edited text or download TXT before closing the page. The file contains your text, without statistics or extra branding.
How words and characters are counted
Words are language-based segments containing letters or numbers. Standalone punctuation and emoji do not add words. Your browser determines boundaries using language rules; hyphenated words, abbreviations and addresses may differ from Microsoft Word or the form where you intend to use the text.
A combined emoji or a letter with combining marks counts as one character. Without spaces excludes standalone spaces, tabs and line breaks. Text is not automatically normalized or corrected. TXT line endings are converted to the editor's format when opened; downloaded TXT uses UTF-8.
Sentences use your browser's segmentation; a fragment containing letters or numbers counts even without a final period. Abbreviations can affect the result. Lines include blank lines and a final line after a line break. Paragraphs are groups of non-blank lines separated by blank lines. All counts are zero for an empty editor.
Check a script before you speak
The counter shows length, not writing quality. Speaking time divides your word count by the pace you choose and excludes pauses. Rehearse aloud to check your actual timing. You can record a short practice take, or transcribe a short English recording before reviewing its text.
Your text stays in this tab
Text, TXT filenames and counts are not sent to Cuevy. There is no autosave, signup, speech model, microphone access or AI processing. Analytics count page opens, the first successful non-empty count containing words, and copy or download actions, without text or its statistics. Session replay is disabled. Sharing a tool link includes only its public address, not your draft.
A current browser with Unicode segmentation is required. If counting fails or the text is too large, old numbers are not shown as current. Your text remains in the editor and can be copied or downloaded. Invalid characters must be corrected before copying or downloading is enabled. Cuevy's paid Russian desktop call assistant is a separate product.
