How to test your microphone and hear yourself
- Click Start microphone test and allow microphone access in your browser. The first test uses your system's default input.
- Speak normally and watch the level meter. It shows the current peak of the received audio. Recording stops after 10 seconds; you can finish early.
- Listen to the recording. Check that your words are clear and the sound is not too quiet or distorted. Select another available microphone and repeat if needed.
Input devices appear after permission is granted, if your browser provides the list. The result names the input actually received. Selecting a missing device returns an error; the test does not silently switch to another microphone. After connecting a headset, click Refresh inputs.
If the level meter does not move
- Say a phrase and check your headset's physical mute switch.
- Compare the selected microphone with the input in your system settings. A laptop, USB microphone and headset can have different inputs.
- Check microphone permission for cuevy.ru in your browser and permission for the browser itself in your device settings.
- If the device is disconnected or in use elsewhere, finish using it in the other app, reconnect it and repeat the test.
What the microphone test measures
The percentage is a fraction of the browser input's digital maximum, not a microphone quality score. Peak level and sample rate refer to the received recording. Noise suppression is shown only when reported by the browser; this test does not change that setting. Listen back to assess clarity and background sounds.
This tests the browser input. Zoom, Teams, Discord and other apps can use a different microphone or audio processing. Select the intended input in your call app and use its own sound check before a call.
Your test recording stays on your device
The microphone starts only after you click the button and grant browser permission. Capture stops when you finish, cancel or leave the page. Allowing a cancelled permission request later does not start another test. Audio, device names and recording contents are not uploaded to Cuevy. No speech model is downloaded; session replay is disabled. Usage analytics count page opens, completed tests and download clicks without audio or microphone details.
Questions before testing
- Is this microphone test free?
- Yes, with no account or paid unlock. Each test records up to 10 seconds. You can repeat it with another input. Cuevy's paid Russian-language desktop call assistant is a separate product.
- Why is my microphone missing from the list?
- Your browser lists only the devices available to it. Grant microphone access and refresh the list. Check your headset connection and system permissions. If the input list cannot be loaded, the page reports this; you can test the system default input separately.
- Why does my microphone sound different in a call?
- A call app can use another input, volume, noise suppression or network audio processing. This test records the browser input. Check the settings in the call app and make a test call.
- Can I test my microphone on a phone?
- Use a compatible browser with microphone access and AudioWorklet support. Keep this page active and the screen unlocked. If the input or audio stream is interrupted, the received portion is saved with a warning. Leaving the page cancels an unfinished test.
- Can I hear myself while recording?
- Playback is available after recording. The test does not send live microphone audio to your speakers, which avoids acoustic feedback.
- Can I record longer or transcribe my voice?
- The free voice recorder records up to 5 minutes and exports WAV. You can select a saved recording in English speech to text, review the words and estimated timings, and download TXT, SRT or VTT. These links open a new tab; save the test recording first.
